Thoughts!?!?!?

Where's the peeps at?
I thought for sure SOMEONE Else would've been the first to post something!
Anyway.... really good episode... I knew that bitch was bad!! What a sneaky lil' thing... she almost had me going, but I knew better!! Does anyone think she's playing Ben, or is she really JUST THAT BAD???? Also... did anyone else hear Ben say... the chip has been implanted, and she'll start feeling symptoms in 48 hours? If that's what he said... wouldn't that mean someone on the island is bad and implanted said chip?? Or did I hear him wrong?

I thought it was a really good episode too -- all KINDS of things going on! This was a fun return to the old "shit's happenin!" reaction that the earlier seasons elicited. The Jack/Juliet, "Stranger in a Strange Land"/"One of Us" dichotomy was really cool -- we don't expect Jack to betray the other Losties when he's in the Others' camp, so why do we expect Juliet to betray the Others in the Losties' camp? (And did anyone else think of "Freaks" when Jack told Juliet that she is now "one of us"?)

I don't know if she's playing Ben, but my guess is no. Assuming there's another way off the island, and Ben controls it, it looks like Juliet is being used like Michael. Perhaps she'll end up being a better person than Michael, but she has even less reason to not betray the Losties since she doesn't know them (and they killed Goodwin and Ethan). Our best bet is that she enters into a relationship with Jack that might complicate her motives a little, but she might just try to get him to flip.

Another interesting question is what is she even there for? What's the plan? Maybe to learn more about Sun and her pregnancy? Maybe to take their weapons so the Others can attack them with ease later on? Maybe there's something on their side of the island that the Others need?

Sarah, I think Ben did say what we heard him say, but I think it's possible that Claire was implanted with some device when they first kidnapped her and that they can now remotely control. So I don't think there needs to be anyone currently at the camp who is a confederate. Although that's possible too (where HAS Rose been these last several episodes?).

It's getting exciting again! There are 5 episodes left, right? Shit's happenin.

Sarah! She CAN'T be bad... i don't want her to be! Ben's totally manipulating her as he has been doing to mostly everyone he wants something from...

W, i did get the whole Freaks feel from the tittle of the episode. Made me think of what happened to the eventual "chicken-lady"... made me scared for Juliette. I think Ben is sooo greedy and self-interested but, like sam was reiterating, the whole god v evil theory may apply, especially when we think about the question of 'what does it take for a good person to do something bad?'.

i think that Ben is bad and Juliette is good, and the only way for Ben to get his bad deeds done is to channel them thru someone with more good collateral on their side. i was thinking of the Smoke Monster as the punisher too... a little unrelated, i've read somewhere that there might be a link between the Smoke Monster and Cerberus, guardian of Hades.

i have no idea what the hell is going to happen (Sun's pregnancy did jump into mind), although i did get the feeling that we the audience were going to get a glimpse at something sinister that the Losties are oblivious to... a great way to create anxiety. About Juliette being evil, i don't buy it too much. i thought about the flash-back-story device the show uses to show us people they want us to identify with and thereby making them more accessible... we've never had a flashback on someone from the Other's side really...

i still want to know how Juliette became a ninja!!!

the other last thing regards the airline 'HERARAT'... do we know anything more than it being a possible allusion to ARARAT (where Noah's Arc was said to have landed after the flood somewhere in Armenia)... or sam's more quizical approach of it being an extremely simple anagram: "Her? a rat!" in reference to Juliette?

Thoughts?

I've read a few different possible interpretations of "Herarat," but my favorite is that it's an anagram for "Earhart," as in Amelia Earhart, as in the woman who went flying over the Pacific Ocean and disappeared off the face of the earth.

I too wondered how the Others knew about James Ford's little murder. Two possibilities: (1) there was an investigation in Australia and the police somehow connected it to Sawyer, and the Others merely saw this in the news; or (2) the smoke monster saw it (it seems to have the power to see people's pasts) and somehow transmitted it to the Others, meaning that the Others might control the smoke monster.

Juancy, to respond to your question about the possible connection between the smoke monster and cerebus, there is definitely an explicit connection. In that mural in the Swan (the one with the question mark in the middle that Radzinsky was painting every day), one of the painted sentences is "Primary nexus of Cereberus related activity," hence the theory that the smoke monster is a guardian or security system (Rousseau also confirmed this).

The Map also mentions subterranean conduits that presumably the monster uses to travel. If there is a subterranean living space, perhaps we will find out that those who live there (if people do) control the smoke monster.
