Left Behind

What'd you guys think? I thought it was another good episode. Lots of questions, though. Is the "Left Behind" title a reference to the book of the same name about the people who remained after the rapture? What happened to Locke (anyone else notice that his hand was bandaged)? Whatever it is the Others are doing, they've seemed to convince Locke that it's what he should be doing as well.

Has Juliet never seen the Monster because it's a security system run by Ben against newcomers to the island? But now that Juliet has been banished, it looks like she's fair game (was it taking pictures of her?).

One last question -- why were they going back to the beach? You'd think they'd send one or two of them back to get the rest of the Losties and they'd just all move into Otherville. They'd have a shield protecting them against the Monster, they'd have beds, refrigerators, etc.

Thoughts?

I liked it a lot... I liked the two narratives about Kate (flash-back and real time) being forced to work with another woman who might or might not be shady as all hell. Juancy spotted that doubling right away, just so you know.

I like the set-up for a big-time leader showdown between Sawyer and Jack... Sawyer is just starting to get into the idea of taking a leadership role, and here comes Jack but he's got AN OTHER with him, so you know everybody is going to be super-pissed-off, Sawyer most of all, so we're gonna see some bigtime power jockeying...

And why the hell DIDN'T they move into the abandoned other village? I hope they do that soon. It's ridiculous if they don't. Bitches got books! I keep saying to myself that the lack of reading material is what would drive me the craziest on Lost Island.

Is anyone else wondering where the Others went? I don't think they went to the other island (Ben: "my people don't like to come here"), so might there be another facility? How big is this fucking place?

I think Juliet was lying about not knowing about the monster because she later said "It doesn't like our fences". How do you know what it does and doesn't like when you don't know about something. Also, do you think that maybe Ben is planting her with our peeps? Why was she so sure that the sonic fence was off? Did they turn if off in order to leave the area? If so how did she know that, if she was "left behind"? If it was turned off before that for some other reason, how could she be sure that they didn't turn it back on when while she was passed out? And my girl was damn sure, she didn't throw a stick in or anything to make sure. She just walked right it.

I thought the same about the our people moving to othersville. They got running water, fridges, a backyards for the love of all that's holy! And books, don't forget about books!

I did notice Locke's hand! What's up wit dat? And where the hell is Carl? Kate, Locke and Saydid got back to the village but not Carl. He knows where it is!

Hey! Do any of you think that this all maybe a big DHARMA experiment to see what it takes to make so called "bad people" good? And that Hurley conning Sawyer into being decent is an inside joke to what it's all about. And where is Sarah? I miss her and her lust of Sawyer.

I actually tend to believe that Juliet didn't know about the monster (although, here's my question about the monster - why didn't it just fly over the fence?), but she might be lying about being gassed and left there. It's quite possible she's a plant, and it explains why Ben might have handcuffed her to Kate. Jack is already on her side, but it would be even better if she had 2 leaders on her side for when she has to enter the Losties' camp.

I think another interesting question is where did the the Others go? It seems to me that the show is very big into opening up new spaces to explore for every new season. The first season was the beach, the second season was the hatch, part 1 of season 3 was the Hydra island, and I'm thinking part 2 of season 3 might open up a new space we haven't seen yet. My guess? I think there's an underground city.

I think that Juliet admitted to knowing about the monster. I'm pretty sure she said "We don't know what it is, but we know that it doesn't like our fence." I will have to check the almighty TIVO to be sure. If she did know about it, it's possible that she never came face to face with it before.

An underground city would be so cool! Yo, remember the 4-toed statue? When is that coming into play?

I like how Walead says

"My guess? I think there's an underground city."

and yet I get the distinct feeling that his guess is informed by extensive trawling of the Lost Blogosphere...

Wawa, what other "guesses" do you have for us?

Let me just say that I for one do not want an underground city. I want the existing questions answered before I get new shit thrown at me.

W, i got the strange feeling that the smokeMonster flashed four times, and in a weird way recognized Juliette and was somehow 'repelled'. it made me think of the good and the bad balance and who's been done in by the monster. also made me think of the whole Cerberus guardian thing and Juliette being one of the inhabitants exempting her from attack...
