For Real Elli?
Damn... I mean, damn! I mean damn, for real? Did anyone rewind back and really check out her face while she was telling Dan that he should go to the island? It was a fine bit of acting. The emotion behind the smile. But damn... I mean, damn! I mean damn, for real?
Also, I think whatever Jack is up to next week, will either spring them into the right time or cause the meltdown that makes the swan button necessary, maybe both... Your thoughts?

Well That Answers That...
So, it looks like they were always there. You can't change anything. This is very interesting and a real departure from the Back to the Future theory of time travel. I was sort of right about the irony of it all -- that Sayid's actions would lead to Ben becoming Ben. It looks like Jack is also worthy of much blame for not helping Ben himself, which would have obviated the need to take him to the Others. So the people that hate Ben the most are to blame for creating Ben.
Except only sorta. If they can't change anything, then can they really be blamed for their actions? They are sort of predetermined at this point. There's a strange passivity to it all now.
I really liked the convo between Hurley and Miles. It's the same convo that we're all having! The show's response to Hurley's "Why doesn't Ben remember Sayid shooting him?" question was a little weak, I think. The whole "he'll lose his innocence and not remember any of this" concept feels like a real contrivance -- unless we see something next week in the Temple that will make this line make sense. (Note that they still need to explain why Rosseau didn't remember Jin. Relying on "all Koreans look alike" probably won't cut it.)
I'm excited about finding out more about the Temple! It feels like the last uncharted place on the island!

Where are you, Scobby do?
There's been some shit happening and no one is commenting!!! What gives??? Besides last night's cliff-hanger I have a question.
If Horace and Michelle (from 24) really had baby Ethan? Claire abducting/Charlie hanging/Baby snatching Ethan??... Then Ethan somehow survives the purge? Because now he is an itty bitty Dharma-inite, and later he is a creepy, always in the shadows other? What does this mean?? Any thoughts?

Time has a list of the 100 best novels and I think this group would love to discuss the choices.

Sarah, I Hope You're Happy!
Well, Sarah, I guess the Lost gods heard your cry for more Sawyer, cuz we just got an entire episode basically devoted to him! What'd you think? I liked the episode overall, although I'm not sure where they're going with the whole Sawyer-Juliet-Kate triangle. I'm just hoping it doesn't take up TOO much time because it seems like just a distraction.
Speaking of gods, though, I DID find the statue sighting interesting. Word on the street is that it's likely of Egyptian god Anubis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anubis). Notice how he's holding an Ankh (which is a symbol for eternal life) in one picture. The Lost statute appears to be holding two Ankhs. And, of course, Horace (another Egyptian god's name) spots Amy with the Ankh she took from her previous husband. So where are they going with all this? Are they saying the island is where the ancient Egyptians once lived, or where they learned about building a civilization?
There's also been some chatter about Amy's baby. If the Losties hadn't come upon her, would she have died? They aren't supposed to be able to change anything, so does that mean she wouldn't have died, or does it mean that Farraday was wrong about that? If he's wrong and they did manage to change the past, then Amy's baby should never have been born... Hmm. Maybe that's why babies conceived on the island always die? The island is pissed that a baby was born that shouldn't have been?

is LOST starting to lose you?
cuz it kinda is...
i mean, i'm intrigued, but i'm not thrilled at how sloppy things seem to be... not as tight, you know?
it's fun show now as opposed to a great one for me. i hope this changes back to its original way of thrilling and mystifying with plausibility being its core... can they come back?
let's see... anywho, it seems we ain't all that excited as a group much nowadays...
oh well...

Can the past be changed?
So Jin, is the reason that Russeo and by default Alex is alive, since it seems to be that the rest of the team went down into the temple and got the "sickness". The killing of Alex also set Ben off to do things not yet seen, because of this prior action.
It also seems to me that Locke made himself the Leader of the other's by telling Albert to check him out in the hospital when he was born.
And Daniel, who says the past can't be changed sure seems to be trying. He tries to get Desmond to help as well as, tries to tell young Charlotte not to come back to island. And he is for some reason at the orchid when it's being built.
Things that make you go hmm...
I think they are telling us this story now pulp fictions style and if we can put the pieces together in chronological order, we will start to see how things are coming together.

New Survey and a little sprucing up of the blog!
Hi everybody!
Just wanted to try and get us going in chatting about Lost... namely: Sarah, Saffie, and Tina!
Anywho, go ahead and vote! Look on the right top of the page... there should be a pop-up when u get to the blog page, and if that doesn't work, click the link. Once we've all voted, i'll post the results.
Also, if u want me to make a survey for the blog, just email me ur question and choices...
So the burning question so far seems to revolve around these three:

Daniel's Mama
Hey --
So, real quick, this is not my theory (whereas my last post was), but this sounds like a very plausible theory to me:
Desmond, as we know, is trying to find Daniel Faraday's Mom because she apparently is able to stop the Island from skipping through time. The going theory is that Daniel's Mom is Ms. Eloise Hawking -- the crazy old time-jumping woman that Desmond met in "Flashes Before Your Eyes." It would make sense that if anyone can stop the Island from skipping, it'd be her.
Moreoever, the theory goes on to say that Ms. Eloise Hawking may be "Ellie" -- the blonde Other that captured the Losties and took Daniel to the hydrogen bomb. Remember when Daniel was saying something to her like, "You look like --" but stopped himself? He may have wanted to say that she looks like his Mama, and if you compare Ellie with Eloise Hawking, they do look similar, albeit 50 years apart.
Further, it makes sense that she had Daniel while on the Island, allowing him to work for Dharma years later.

So What Had Happened Was...
in the 1880s, the Black Rock, a slave ship, leaves England headed to Thailand and crashes on the Island. The sailors find that the Island is nearly deserted -- except for Richard Alpert (and maybe a few others) -- and Richard eventually recruits them to stay on the Island and be its protectors because he can't protect it alone. I don't know what happens to the slaves, but the 1950s Others are the descendants of those British sailors... hmm... except how come none of the Others are ever old? Maybe because the Island has healing properties so no one ever reaches old age because old age is your body deteriorating and the Island prevents that? So people can age from children to adults, but they can't get older than mid-life? So maybe the 1950s Others are the actual crew from the Black Rock?
In any case, one of them is Widmore and he likely ends up taking lead of the Others in some way -- perhaps by force? -- until Ben rescues the Others from Charles and Charles is banished from the Island forever under certain "rules." And perhaps Charles was made to turn the Donkey Wheel when he was banished -- which explains how Ben knew about it, but I don't know how Charles would have gotten back there post-Dharma without destroying the Orchid chamber like Ben had to. It does seem like the Island has moved since Charles left, however. The Black Rock was sailiing from the UK to Thailand, so it would have crashed in the Indian Ocean rather than the Pacific, but flight 815 was likely flying over the Pacfic when it crashed, so the Island may have moved between those two crashes, which is maybe one of the reasons Charles was having trouble finding it?
Anyway, Charles wants Ben because he knows that Ben is his main obstacle to taking back the Island. He later has Locke killed because he takes over the Others in Ben's stead.
Thoughts?

My house skipped...
Did anyone think that this episode was over in the blink of an eye? I suddenly saw Bad Robot and asked the clock, "WHAT?!?"

A Broken Record
Hey, LeftBehinders! How're you guys doing? What'd everyone think of the first 2 episodes of Lost last week?
Briefly, I LOVED how the first episode started with Candle (or, I guess it's "Chang") waking up and putting on a Willie Nelson record (which subsequently skips, foreshadowing how the island, as a "record" will skip through time later on). And then he goes to the Orchid Station, and we see Faraday. All very cool, very interesting. But then... I dunno, I didn't dislike the episodes, but I didn't think they quite lived up to previous season premieres. I was particularly unimpressed with the second episode, the Hurley episode, because Hurley, like Sawyer, just slows down the show for me. The entire episode just seemed like a lot of unnecessary activity -- Sayid gets hurt, Hurley's driving around with Sayid, he buys a shirt, he goes home, he talks to his dad and mom, his dad takes off with Sayid... etc. A whole lot of moving around without anything really important or particularly interesting happening. There are only 2 seasons left! We have precious few moments left with this show -- why are we wasting 5 minutes watching Hurley buy a shirt!?
The problem with the show having a firm end date is that now the writers are just sort of winding down. They're busying themselves with getting to the end, with answering questions, which is fine, except it's always more interesting to see the magic trick then to find out how it was done.
As for the island time-jumping, I kind of like it and kind of don't. What I don't like about it is that the show has clearly gone off the rails. Remember the days where we (or at least I) thought that the show was grounded in reality and the answers to everything would be plausible? They killed that last season, but this season seems to want to go even further. Anytime you play around with time-jumping, you're just asking for trouble. What I like about it, though, is that I think this is actually a very clever -- and potentially really fun -- way of exploring the history of the island. They could jump back to Dharma, to the four-toed statue people, to the purge, to when they themselves crashed, etc. There are endless possibilities, and it could be a lot of fun. I remember during the second or third seasons the writers were thinking about doing an episode where the island gets its own flashbacks. Well, this may not be what they had in mind, but this could be a really fun way of doing it if it's done right.
